SOUTH HUNTERDON STUDENT ALLEGEDLY PLACED IN DANGER

A tenured South Hunterdon middle school science teacher was suspended with pay Dec. 15 pending the outcome of an investigation by the Hunterdon County Prosecutor's Office. The teacher allegedly placed a student at harm in a video made after school hours.  Story

ETHICS CLAIM LODGED BY SMOKERS GROUP

NATIONAL SMOKERS ALLIANCE SAYS HEALTH OFFICER BROKE LAW

Several months after the National Smokers Alliance snuffed out a smoking ban in Princeton, the organization has filed an ethics complaint claiming Princeton Regional Health Commissioner Katherine Benesch violated state law by accepting a grant from New Jersey Breathes to research legal issues involving the ban.  Story

MERCURY STAYS FOR NOW

FEDERAL GOVERNMENT TO STUDY DEPOT'S IMPACT

More than 2,600 metric tons of mercury will stay at the Somerville Depot in Hillsborough for at least two more years, while the federal government undertakes a study of the environmental impact of the depot. However, that time frame is still too long to satisfy Mayor Joseph Tricarico.  Story

DESCOTEAU GETS NINE YEARS

PAROLE MAY HAVE HIM OUT OF JAIL BY 2005

Keith Descoteau of Hillsborough was sentenced to nine years in prison, less time served, for his role in the February 1999 murder of Hillsborough resident David Wood, 21. Mr. Descoteau was convicted of reckless manslaughter last month. He could be eligible for parole as early as 2005.  Story

Janice MastrianoAngry, passionate and even warmly humorous comments were exchanged at Monday's public forum at the board meeting for East Windsor Regional Schools. The discussion centered on Janice Mastriano's statement linking homosexuality and pedophilia, and the prospect that the district might ban Boy Scout troops from renting school space.  Story

MAYOR, COUNCIL VOICE DISPLEASURE WITH SERVICE, COURTESY

Allentown Mayor Stu Fierstein grilled representatives of Cablevision at a Borough Council meeting Tuesday, complaining of unreturned phone calls and poor service to the borough. "We feel that services in the area have been lacking," Mayor Fierstein said.  Story
