   This was more like it.
With the walking wounded returning to the lineup, the Princeton University men's basketball team rebounded from last week's disappointing loss at Yale to beat Dartmouth, 72-47, Friday night at Jadwin Gym.
Mason Rocca and Spencer Gloger, who both missed last weekend's road trip to Brown and Yale, both contributed as the Tigers raced out to a 28-8 lead in the first half and never looked back. With the win, Princeton improved to 12-8 overall and 4-1 in the Ivy League. Dartmouth fell to 6-14 overall and 2-5 in the Ivy League.
While Princeton was winning on its home court, down at the Palestra in Philadelphia, Penn improved to 5-0 in the Ivy League with a 79-52 win over Harvard. Princeton will host Harvard Saturday, while Penn will host Dartmouth. The Quakers will visit Jadwin Gym Tuesday night in a key Ivy matchup.
Ahmed El-Nokali led the Tigers with a career-high 15 points, while Gloger was the only other player in double-figures with 11 points. Rocca came off the bench to score nine points.
"I think the key for us was the defense," Princeton assistant coach John Thompson said after the game. "Mason gave us a little lift and all the guys did the job on defense. Now we have to make sure we do it two nights in a row. These guys have played well on Friday, now we have to make sure we do it again."
The Tigers led 34-14 at halftime and saw their lead grow to as much as 70-35 before Princeton coach Bill Carmody cleared the bench. Dartmouth's top two scorers, Greg Buth and Shaun Gee, who came into the game averaging 35 points a game combined, were held to a combined four points. Gee, who did not play in the second half due to a sore knee, was held scoreless.
The Tigers received a strong floor game from point guard El-Nokali, who broke his career-high of 14 points that he scored last week against Brown.
"We were on Ahmed a little bit this week because he has the ability to do what he did tonight," Thompson said. "We told him he could be the kind of defensive player that Sydney (Johnson) was for us. He just has to pressure guys and use his quickness and speed."
The win was the 37th straight at home for Princeton against Ivy League opponents other than Penn.
